Smoker lines
Smoker lines, also known as lipstick lines or lip lines, are fine vertical lines that appear around a person’s mouth.
They are a common sign of ageing and can appear even in non-smokers.
These lines are a natural side-effect of ageing as our skin gradually produces less collagen and elastin.
Other factors that worsen lip wrinkles include genetics, repetitive facial expressions, sun exposure, and smoking.
Botulinum toxin injected into the areas around the mouth, blocks the nerve signals that cause the muscles to contract. This prevents the formation of new wrinkles and makes existing wrinkles appear less visible.
Dermal fillers, often containing hyaluronic acid, can also be used. They are injected into the affected area. These fillers add volume and smooth out the skin, reducing the appearance of smoker lines.
